A Sunday Evening Stroll

Last night, after watching the race (Woot! Go Jimmie!) Jason and I drove to downtown Wichita to check out some of the sites. There are so many great buildings there, I wanted to take some pictures of the architecture, but we ended up near the river, at a place called Exploration Place. It's where the Little Arkansas and the Big Arkansas Rivers meet to form the Arkansas River. They have a huge Native American monument at the point where the rivers meet, and a few bridges so you can walk across the rivers.

After spending some time reading the history, and taking pictures there, we headed to a park that is right across the river from the apartment complex, OJ Watson Park. It's a great park! It has a large pond/lake that practically surrounds the entire park. There's a train whose tracks line the perimeter of the park, pony rides (sorry, just for kids!), peddle boats, canoes, a mini golf course, volleyball courts, a concessions stand, ducks and geese, along with a lot of open grass, places to sit, pavilions for gatherings, and playgrounds located throughout the park.

There was a great old-looking bridge that the train went through. It reminded me of the bridge at the beginning of Beetlejuice, you know, the one where their car falls into the water and they die. Morbid, I know. It was a great bridge, so I snapped a few pictures of it.

But I think my favorite thing in the park was this sign. And yes, it really WAS in the park. And I'm glad they made a sign, because I find I'm always confused about whether or not to leave my heat at home.
