YES WE DID!

As an Obama supporter, last night was a nerve-racking and intense and exciting and inspiring night! This is the first year that I've actually been excited about the presidential election. I was anxious to watch the election results come in, and see the numbers announced live. Unfortunately, I had to go to work early last night, so missed a lot of it.

Jason and I voted when he got off of work, then we went around to get our freebie "voter" things (see previous post), and as soon as we got back, we turned the tv on. Most of the 24-hour cable news stations had election coverage starting at 4:00 pm! Normally, I don't like to watch THAT much news and politics, but being election day and all, I was glued to the tv when the numbers and the states started rolling in. Luckily, right before I had to leave for work, they announced that Obama had won Ohio and had reached 200 electoral votes. That was an exciting moment, because it was virtually impossible for McCain to win at that point. Throughout the rest of the night, Jason would send me a text message right before my break, and give me an update.

I didn't get to see President Elect Obama's acceptance speech live, but I just watched part of it that had recorded on my DVR. I am so inspired by him. He has such intelligent ideas and opinions and views. I love his different way of thinking, and his calm yet firm temperment. I find myself getting very emotional while he is speaking, because not only are his words inspiring, but he represents a giant step for America as a truly united nation.

I am so excited for January 20, 2009. I couldn't ask for a better birthday present that to know that my birthday, January 19, will be President Bush's LAST day in office. And not only is it my birthday, but it is Civil Rights Day (better known as Martin Luther King, Jr. Day). What better way to celebrate the memory of Martin Luther King, Jr. and all he did, than to swear in the first African American President of the United States.

He is such an inspiring man! I have so much faith in him as a leader, that he will help America and he will fight for the country, to make it a better place for my generation, and for generations to come.

Congratulations President Elect Obama!!!
