For years I've wanted to see Les Miserables on stage. So last week while Jason and I were working out at the gym, when a commercial came on announcing that the Musical Theater of Wichita was hosting a production of Les Miserables, obviously I was very excited. (It's funny because just about a week ago, we had talked about wanting to get out and experience some culture in the city.) We agreed that he would buy the tickets, and I would pay for dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, Sal's, a Japanese steakhouse.

We saw the show on Saturday night, it was amazing! I thought the cast members were all excellent performers, and very talented. We both had a great night absorbing culture in the heart of downtown Wichita - which is a bit smaller than Salt Lake City. Here are a few pics of Wichita, for those who are interested. That big circular-looking building toward the middle of the second picture is the theater where we saw Les Miserables.

However, just before we left for our evening de la culture, we caught the word on the news that the machinists at Hawker Beechcraft (where Jason works) had indeed decided to strike. A majority of the workers at his plant are union workers, but the department he works in is not, so this doesn't affect his job, but it greatly affects the plant as a whole. They had meetings last week about a contingency plan if the strike did happen, and this morning, Jason went to work, as usual. However, to make up for the workers that are on strike, and to try to keep the factory up and running until an agreement can be made, all the non-union employees are on mandatory overtime, 10-hour shifts, Monday - Friday. This is better than their original plan of 12-hour shifts, Monday - Saturday. Hopefully the strike will be resolved soon, and he can go back to working normal shifts again.
In other news, a couple nights ago, Jason encountered a new friend. A praying mantis. I took a few pictures, and while I was taking them, the praying mantis decided to get a closer look at Jason. It ran up his arm, and jumped right onto his face. He was a very good sport to sit there with it on his face and hold still for me while I took the pictures.
And now, just for fun, here's a picture of Jason and me, after we got back from the performance. Notice my blonde hair. I had dark brunette hair when I left Utah, and now I'm blonde again. Oh yeah, and Jason cut his hair really short!
Well, that's it for now. See ya later!
